Nothing to do with crafts

I have been away this weekend, I left on Saturday morning and returned Sunday night. I was at a Girls Brigade Training weekend at Scottish Churches House in Dunblane. Churches house is a row of old cottages that were to be demolished, however the Church bought them over and restored them in the early 1960's, they are the strangest thing ever, it is like being in a maze, there are so many different doors, there are staircases all over the place and you can enter the first cottage and leave at the last....but the thing that had the most effect on me was the lack of tv's, computer and all electronic equipment. The whole atmosphere was one of complete serenity, which is amazing in a town with such a tragic history. Before leaving on Sunday we had a service in the old chapel at the rear of the building, it was an amazing experience, the chapel dates back to the year 1200 and it is an amazing feeling inside it.

I have attach a couple of pictures, the first is Churches House and yes it is all the houses you see in the picture...and the others are the exterior and interior of the old chapel

Dressing Dolls

Had a bit of a blast from the past tonight, as part of a Cyber Crop on Uk Scrappers, we were told to do a dressing doll of a famous person. This automatically took me back to my childhood, in the Twinkle magazine, you always got a dressing doll to cut out and play with. Now I liked dressing dolls, my sister on the other hand loved dressing dolls, she had hundreds and they all had names. Even to this day she talks about how devastated she was when as a young adult, she discovered my father had thrown them away.

But to get back to the dressing doll of a famous person, I decided to go for Clark Gable as Rhett Butler from "Gone with the wind", once I had done him, I thought he seemed kind of sad on his own, so I decided to bring along Vivien Leigh, as we all know she was the one he really loved.... I could not however decide on a dress for her, so I chose 3....I just love the dark one.

If you or perhaps your kids are into dressing dolls, you should check out this site...the lady has tons of them, including up to date characters.

Cross in my pocket

This is a picture of the little gifts they girls from my Girls Brigade company made, they were given to the people who attended our Easter service and those that were left over were given to the pastoral care group to give out to those who are housebound.

Each one contained a printed poem called "I carry a cross in my pocket" which is a lovely way of remembering Jesus as we go about our daily lives.

New Beginnings

I have been a rotten blogger for the last few months, anyone who knows me will understand why! So many things have happened in my life since the start of 2008, hence I have entitled this post new beginnings....it is time I took control of my life once again, so instead of being swept along with events..I am now going to dictate what can and cannot have an impact on my life..

~So to mark the new beginnings I created a new blog header and I am going to make an entry here every day, even if it is only to say Hi!, but this is a craft blog, so I am going to commit to making at least one craft entry a week...hopefully more...

So here is to New Beginnings

Name Books

These are two name books I made for my friend, who is a fellow scrapbooker. I dont know about you, but crafters spend their time making gifts for friends who are normally non crafters, I know as a crafter it is very rare for someone to give me a gift they made, well it is the same for my friend, she makes scrapbook albums, cards and the most beautiful cross stitch pictures for friends and family and never receives a handmade gift herself. Well I decided it would be nice to give her a surprise, so I made these little name books for her, there is one for each of her daughters Eilidh and Iona, I photographed them prior to the pictures going in to save any problems with showing other folks kids on my blog.
