Clean and Simple Christmas Card

I made this card using one of the beautiful stampin up sets I bought as part of the Stampers 10 group. I thought I would start with a clean and simple card and see how I can build on it, using the same set...so watch this space :)

Girls Brigade Fundraising Concert

I have had fun the last few weeks making things for the Girls Brigade fundraising concert, we always have a craft table in the halls, so the people at the concert can browse while having their coffee and mince pies. So this year we had some old favourites and some new things. I am pleased to say that I only had to bring a couple of snowman soups home again.

A first for me this year was Burden Bears, these are little bears with their own little quilt and their own little card, which contains a verse telling you why they have come to live with you.

Burden Bear Verse

I'm not a very fancy bear,
I'm plain and rather small.
Even so, someone who loves you
Said I should come to call.

I brought my favourite blanket,
That I snuggle when I'm sad...
It's a present from my Granny,
Made for days when things seem bad.

My Granny always told me,
"Life's like a patchwork quilt...
Just give Jesus all the pieces,
And he'll make a pretty quilt."

Sometimes I don't see the pattern,
Sometimes he seems far away,
Then I clutch my favourite blanket
And I pray...and pray...and pray.

Though I don't have all the answers,
For I'm just a "Burden Bear"
I've been sent here on a mission
From someone who really cares.
So when you see me, please remember...
You are in their thoughts and prayers.

Pillow Boxes (Well some of them anyway)

Calendars

I also did more candles, snowman soup, snowman poop and Rudolph candy canes. I did enjoy it, but I am now looking forward to a little break from it all.

Christmas Candles

I have to say I like doing candles, I just dont like doing them at the last minute and that is what I ended up doing today, 20 candles that should have been done by someone else, but for various reasons it didnt happen...it was a chore, but worth it when I saw them finished.

First Foot Kits

I suggested the craft group make some First Foot Kits to sell at the craft fayre, the lady who took on this task, phoned me lastnight and said she could not manage, so surprise, surprise, I ended up with them. However, I really enjoyed making them, probably because its been a while since I last made them.

For those of you unfamiliar with the custom of "First Footing", this is the term used in Scotland for the first person who steps into your house, after midnight at New Year, hence the term "First Foot". However, it is not that simple, the first person to step in, should be dark headed and must not come empty handed, thus ensuring your house never goes without in the year ahead.
So to make sure you are welcome at any door as a first foot, this kit contains

Shortbread - may you always have food to eat
Money (5p) - may your purse always hold a coin or two
Coal - may you always have warmth in your home
Whiskey - to toast your health
attached to the ribbon is also a Scottish prayer

O thou who kindly dost provide
For ev'ry creature's want!
We bless the God of Nature wide,
For all Thy goodness lent.

And if it please Thee, heavenly Guide,

May never worse be sent;
But, whether granted or denied,
Lord, bless us with content.

Snowman Soup and Snowman Poop

I seem to be on a never ending round of craft fayres at the moment, at Church, school and Girls Brigade. Today I had fun with snowman soup and snowman poop, someone told me they thought snowman poop was awful and would be a terrible thing to give to a child, all I can say is they dont know kids (old and young) very well...what kid would not love to boast of eating snowman poop LOL...I know mine would.
