This is my progress so far, on Faith by My Big Toe Designs. I'm loving stitching this and it seems quite appropriate at the moment, my cancer journey requires a lot of Faith, not just in God, but in my family and the doctors and nurses who are looking after me.

Downsizing

I have finally decided that its time to take the bull by the horns and I have to downsize. Downsize what I hear you ask, the car, the house, my working hours (I wish) no, unfortunately I need to downsize ME!!!!, I can no longer keep blaming the fact that I was ill for my size, well I can blame it for my size, but not for me still being this size...if you know what I mean. I know because I was ill, it may be harder to lose weight, but, were theres a will, theres a way...as they say...so meet my friend Snowy the snowman, he is going to help me to lose 14lbs by Christmas.

My hat weighs 2lbs
My Broom weighs 3lbs
My eyes weigh 1lb each
My Carrot nose weighs 1lb
My arms weigh 2lb each
My candy cane weighs ½ lb
And my buttons weigh ½ lb each

So watch this space and see how I get on...hopefully he will be the amazing shrinking snowman!!!!

This is as far as I have got with this beautiful little cross stitch. I seem to be having one of those times when I am so busy that I cannot find time to just sit and chill and I am beginning to get withdrawl sypmtoms LOL. I have not stitched or done any scrap booking in ages...really need to make the time, I make the time for everything else.

I am working today and heading to the caravan this weekend. I am looking forward to doing some touristy stuff with my hubby and son, while my gorgeous daughter has a ball at T in the Park. Royal Highland Show

I went to the Royal Highland Show today, I cannot believe I am 49 and this is the first time I have ever attended this event. I must admit I did not know what to expect, lots of cows and tractors I think...but it was an amazingly entertaining day. So much to see and so much to do. I would like to go back with a friend or my hubby..it would be so much better then.

OMG how good is this book, I have just finished listening to 9th Judgement...it was amazing, dont get me wrong I have enjoyed all the books in this series...but yet again James Patterson, had me gripped to the end and its been a long time since a book has actually brought me to tears...and this one did it. Cant wait for number 10 :D

Spring is in the Air

How gorgeous are these snowdrops. I would love to say they are mine but sadly not...but hopefully by this time next year these little beauties will be growing in my garden. I was very lucky this week to be given some snowdrops to plant....I can honestly say that I love these little flowers, no matter how bad the weather, how rough the conditions...every year these little beauties pop their heads up and take on the world. So delicate but so tough.

There is a craft group that meets once a month at our church halls and for some reason whenever I say I am going along, they ask if I could show them a technique or a style of card they have never done before. Well the group met this morning and I decided I would show them how to make a Tri fold shutter card, this is not my usual style of card...I know they can be made very decorative with patterned papers etc, but I decided to keep mine clean and simple. I got no crafting of my own done, except the card as I was busy showing them how to fold the cards...it was a good laugh watching everyone trying to figure it out. But that means I am now home trying to sort out the craft make and takes for tomorrow nights Womens Fellowship meeting...oh well better get on.

An Angel watched over me today

I had an angel watching over me today. Since been given the all clear for breast cancer last September, I have had no problems. However a few days ago I discovered a lump, I hoped it would go away on its own...wishful thinking...so yesterday I bit the bullet and phoned the hospital, my fabulous surgeon agreed to see me today...and after a lot of poking and prodding..he was able to determine it was not a tumor...but a problem with scar tissue...I floated out of the hospital....maybe one of these days I will stop being scared of my own body...please my friends be breast aware...It could save your life x

Having had Breast Cancer myself I know how important it is to get the message out there, so these will either go to the Oncology Unit where I got my treatment, or be sold by myself to raise money for the unit. I started this card yesterday for the Stampin' Sisters in Christ Challenge #23, but with sorting things for Girls' Brigade etc I did not get to finish it until today, I am still getting used to colouring my images so loving these stamping challenges. This weeks challenge was to use a bit of green somewhere on your card, to signify the tiny green shoot that first appears from a tiny seed. She chose a lovely piece of scripture to go along with this challenge.

This week on UK scrappers the challenge was to scrap a piece of history, I had recently been looking at photographs of my mum, so decided to use one of them for the challenge....I had also just got a beautiful photograph of my friends daughter, so funnily enough both my LO's feature children....separated by 78 years...but both photographs were taken at a time when the world was an adventure waiting to happen.

I saw a tutorial for these wallets on splitcoast stampers and just had to try them, I loved it so much I made 3 wallets and then decided to do a minibook for in each one, the minibooks have pics of my mum and dad in them, so I am keeping one and giving the other two to my sisters. Well once again the snow has been falling steadily all morning, only now can we begin to see some blue sky peeking through. I might go out later and take some photographs, not taken any of the snow, but I suppose I should make some record of the worst snow in this area for over 20yrs, especially as this is the start of a new decade. But today was always going to be an at home day, I have a few projects I started earlier in the week I want to finish, but before I can get to them I need to tidy up, once the place looks tidy I will feel better about spending the rest of the day scrapping and sewing:)...so I will hopefully be back later with some finished projects.

I can honestly say I am now sick and tired of snow, it is still about 9 inches deep outside, I am fed up digging out my poor little car. In fact my poor little car is slowly losing the fight of being able to reach the bottom of the ruts in the road, I am scared that one of these times when I take it out, it will just balance on the hard packed ice in the middle of the road.

It is definitely a time to snuggle up with a nice warm hot chocolate, a good book, some sewing, a movie or better yet a nice warm man....oh well hubbies busy so it looks like Harry Potter and hot chocolate for me.

Only 3 more sleeps to the Jolly Fat Man arrives, so I guess it really is almost Christmas and it looks like its going to be a white one. There does not seem to be any let up in the weather, but no matter, I am organised and ready for the big event...so bring it on.

Girls Brigade Fundraising Concert

I have had fun the last few weeks making things for the Girls Brigade fundraising concert, we always have a craft table in the halls, so the people at the concert can browse while having their coffee and mince pies. So this year we had some old favourites and some new things. I am pleased to say that I only had to bring a couple of snowman soups home again.

A first for me this year was Burden Bears, these are little bears with their own little quilt and their own little card, which contains a verse telling you why they have come to live with you.

First Foot Kits

I suggested the craft group make some First Foot Kits to sell at the craft fayre, the lady who took on this task, phoned me lastnight and said she could not manage, so surprise, surprise, I ended up with them. However, I really enjoyed making them, probably because its been a while since I last made them.

For those of you unfamiliar with the custom of "First Footing", this is the term used in Scotland for the first person who steps into your house, after midnight at New Year, hence the term "First Foot". However, it is not that simple, the first person to step in, should be dark headed and must not come empty handed, thus ensuring your house never goes without in the year ahead.

So to make sure you are welcome at any door as a first foot, this kit contains

Shortbread - may you always have food to eat

Money (5p) - may your purse always hold a coin or two

Coal - may you always have warmth in your home

Whiskey - to toast your health

attached to the ribbon is also a Scottish prayer

Snowman Soup and Snowman Poop

I seem to be on a never ending round of craft fayres at the moment, at Church, school and Girls Brigade. Today I had fun with snowman soup and snowman poop, someone told me they thought snowman poop was awful and would be a terrible thing to give to a child, all I can say is they dont know kids (old and young) very well...what kid would not love to boast of eating snowman poop LOL...I know mine would.

OMG how excited am I, my DH has finally finished my craftroom. It has taken me 4 days to put all my stuff back, so now I am really looking forward to using it. There are so many things I have been wanting to do, so hopefully now I have my room I will manage to get some of them done:)

LSNED Day 8 - Today I learnt that we should be grateful for the familiar, I do girls brigade and because of my cancer treatment, I missed a big part of last year. However being back at Girls Brigade tonight...I could really appreciate my time with the girls, their enthusiasm and fun make it so worth while:)

LSNED Day 9 - I gave my daughter a lift to college today and on the way we have to drive through an area that is really lovely countryside, with lots of trees. At one point in the road the trees create a canopy that makes an area like driving through a leafy tunnel, the sun was sparkling through the trees and that and the feel of the chill in the air...really brought it home that autumn was here, nipping at our toes and waiting to take over from summer. So today I leart that I really like living in a country that has changing seasons:)

LSNED Day 10 - I met my friend and went for a game of bingo, No we did not win..but do you know it did not matter...we caught up on what was happening with our families, we chatted about projects we were working on, made plans for future outings and just had a good old natter. So today I learnt that I am so fortunate to have so many wonderful friends that share my life:)

I was out today meeting friends for coffee and then my daughter and I went to the Dog Rehoming Centre. It was so sad seeing all these poor animals in their little runs and these were not pups, these where full grown dogs..put into the home for one reason or another..mainly because the families they lived with, no longer wanted them. There was one dog we could have taken, it was adorable...unfortunately it did not like kids and I have kids. However another couple asked about him just as we were leaving, so hopefully he at least found a home. Today I learnt

1. That the recession has affected families in more ways than one.
2. That there are people who love animals, even when they are not their own.
3. That it is sad to see so many poor creatures without someone to love them.
4. That I am so lucky to have the wonderful Tara as my dog:)

LSNED Day 6

I had a fab time at the caravan this weekend even if it was just me and the dog, the lovely, adorable Tara. It did however bring home to me that yes my kids are getting older and that more and more it will be them doing their own thing and me coming down here on my own and that is when I knew that I needed to get another dog. I hear you ask why my kids getting older means I need another dog, well the much loved and adored Tara is 13 years old and will not go on forever, so I thought if I got a pup at the moment I would be at home to house break it and hopefully it would learn from Tara who has the best temperament ever found in a dog. I know I could not replace her, but I would need some company when I go down to the caravan. So today I learnt

1. That I am so fortunate to have such an adorable pet.
2. That no matter how much I like my own company, that does not mean I like to be on my own.
3. That I have well adjusted kids, who are getting on with their lives.

I headed off to the caravan this weekend. To get to the site you have to come down a twisting turning country lane and as I came round the bend at the top of the hill, I could see the whole site, the beach, the sea and the surfers and canoists and I it was like a switch being flicked, I felt the stresses of everyday life disappear. It was amazing the feeling of calm that this view had on me. I could not wait to get onto the beach and walk the dog, watch the surfers and just take in the pure power of the sea, which was raging . So today I learnt....

1. The simple act of getting away is all I need.
2. That I could watch the sea forever.
3. That I will retire to the coast one day.

Today I took my daughter shopping for shoes and as I looked at the various styles of shoes in the shop she was in, it dawned on me that there was not one shoe I would buy!!!!!!!!!! Not because I did not like them, because when I was younger I would have wanted them all....No I suddenly realised that my feet where acting their age....even if the rest of me was'nt. I no longer looked at the high heeled fashion shoe, I looked at the flip flops, trainers and court shoes...when did this happen...oh well everything comes to an end sooner or later:( So today I learnt

1. My feet know better than my head.
2. Summer is over and its time to put the flip flops away.
3. I prefer my feet bare.
4. Cosy fluffy socks are better than slippers.

Todays lesson was easy today, I was faced with temptation over and over again. I recently joined weight watchers and I am determined to stick at it...however today I was out with the kids and they chose KFC for lunch...then in the evening it was Womens Fellowship and it was tramps supper night...which if you dont know is Fish and chips out of the paper....OMG surrounded by food. But how proud was I, I declined each time...so today I learnt

1. When faced with temptation I could say no!
2. That I have wonderful friends who dont push the issue.
3. That my kids love me as I am.

Well I am getting into the right mindset for this project and finally settled on what I wanted to do for day one. However doing it was more of a challenge than I thought....the reason....as I mentioned a few posts ago my DH is making our extension into a craft room for me, so that meant packing all my craft stuff away....so today I learned

1. that to get what you want, you have to make some sacrifices.
2. that i should really look at the big picture before I sign up for something.
3. that when there is work to be done, my kids suddenly become invisible.
4. that what is urgent for me, is not urgent for my hubby.

Well here we are at the end of day one of LSNED and I am stuck already. I am not 100% sure I learned anything today. I certainly did not have any great epiphany:lol: I am sitting here going over my day and I have made a few observations: -

1. That the scales never lie (joined weight watchers today)

2. That when you need cardboard boxes, the best time to look for them is on bin day...kind hearted shopkeepers leave them at the kerb. (needed to pack craft supplies, so hubby can make a craft room)

3. That emptying one room can take over your whole house :lol:

4. That no matter how much I deny it, I really do like other folks children.

5. That no matter how much I looked forward to the end of the last session, I was so ready to get back to Girls Brigade tonight for the new session.

6. That I am glad that I live in a country where you can feel the seasons changing.

How I am meant to scrap any of this I am not sure, but I am too tired tonight to even begin to try. Hopefully tomorrow I will ge given more information to help me interpret my day better.

New Craft Room

I am finally getting my craft room. Dh went out at the weekend and bought the units to that will help turn our extension/sun room into my new craft room. So now my whole house is in turmoil as I had to remove everything from the room to enable us to start working on it. I also went tonight and bought the paint I need to freshen it up, before the units go in:).

This is what I have been working on for the past few nights, it does not take that long to make...I just have problems accessing my craft supplies at the moment. I needed something gorgeous to put my daughters birthday pics in:) so this is it. It is my take on a mini book designed by Jan Tink on her Stamps, paper, scissors blog. Check her out she is amazing. Hard to believe this is made from 2 envelopes and some card.

Well I cant believe it, but my little girl is all grown up. My daughter Kate was 16 today and I am so proud of the lovely young women she has turned into. Of course all milestone birthdays need lots of pics taken...and thats what I did, this is one of her with her dad....how proud does he look:)

Over on Uks at the moment they are running an inspirational thread called " A mini book a day " and the other day there was one which involved using beermats, well fond as I am of the occassional tipple, I do not frequent pubs....so off I trotted to my local British Legion Club...only to find the recession has hit and they no longer open during the day:(. Now just by luck I met my brother, who does like to go to the pub....so off he popped to his local and came back with the beermats I need and an additional 100+, his friend had given him a whole pack.....so I really have no excuse for not making one...so I am off to grab a bite to eat and I am going to get started.

Getting the urge

I have been quiet on the scrapbooking and cardmaking front lately, I have taken plenty of pictures, but I have not felt the urge to scrap any. I did make a card for a friend recently and once I know she has it I will post a pic, but that has been the extent of my paper crafting. However I have been browsing through UK scrappers and some blogs and I am really feeling the urge to get scrapping again:) so hopefully before the week is out I will find the time to sit down and attempt to be creative:).

I hate how I look

Now that my hair is growing back I am starting to see the old me when I look in the mirror. Unfortunatly I am seeing a lot more of me that I would like. I was already over weight when I detoured from my normal life into the world of cancer and chemotherapy, however thanks to the problems with eating during my treatment....I am now grossly overweight and I hate it. So I am going to have to try and sort it out. I know I have have the will power so I am going to keep a weekly log on my blog to inspire me...perhaps by publicly saying how I am doing it will encourage me to keep at it. So here I go, I logged onto a health site to see what I should weigh....I have a long long way to go:lol:

According to my height of 5' 6" my ideal healthy weight is 139 pounds. my recommended weight range is between 123 and 154 pounds.
So that means I a have either 73 or 42 pounds to lose.....wow!!!!!!!!!! that is a lot of weight

Will post next Sunday with my weight loss update...wish me luck

New Beginnings

Today is the first day in 10 months that I do not have to worry about cancer treatment, I am finally finished with Chemotherapy and Radioum. Hopefully that is the end of this horrible chapter in my life and I can get on with just being me.

So as a start on my New Beginning....I rejoined Scottish Slimmers, I have my life back; now I want my body back, 6 months of steriods have certainly helped me pile on the pounds and my gooodness I piled on a lot. I even managed to go out walking today...it is great to finally be able to take control again, I managed 1.25 miles in 15 minutes so not bad after all these months of inactivity, long way to go to managing the 13 miles I used to be able to do...but I will get there.

I am also feeling more like crafting so my energy levels are certainly improving, so hopefully I will be able to post more craft projects here soon.

Good to be scrapping again

Its been a while since I have felt up to scrapping, however now that my chemotherapy is finished...I am beginning to feel like myself once again. I managed two layouts this afternoon, one for a challenge by my team on Uk scrappers and the other is for the weekly challenge set by another team. I enjoyed doing these and perhaps I am needing to challenge myself more now.

This Layout is my daughter trying and failing to stay awake, during a delay for our flight to Orlando...its true teenagers can sleep anywhere:lol:

This layout is for a challenge, it is my son and his friends all dressed up for their school prom....how things change..they called it the Qualifying Dance or the Qually Dance when I was at school...and I had to walk to it, no stretch limo for us...in fact I dont think stretch limo's where around then:lol:

Grateful for my MUM, for the strength I inherited from her, it is sad to realise that this strong, amazing woman will have been missing from my life for a year at the end of this week. While her family live on she will never truely be gone, she is always in our thoughts and in our hearts. So dearly missed.

The second LO is of my gorgeous daughter Kate, what an amazing young woman she is turning into. She shines and brightens my life daily, I am so very grateful that she is mine.

I have been wanting to make cards to raise money for Breast Cancer Research, however I dont always have the energy, well tonight I decided to make a start and this is the first card I've made, quite pleased with it so I will probably do some more like it in different colours. So I know it is only one card so far, but as they say " A journey of 1000 miles begins with one step" So hopefully this will be the first of many.

Making the Effort

I am glad to be able to post something on here, life has been a bit crap and up in the air here, I have so many things I want to do and thanks to the chemotherapy I am not able to.
So I decided last night as the effects of the latest round of treatment had not taken full effect, to use some scrapping time to distract me and I am pleased to say I managed to do this little book for my niece, this is here dog (baby) Portia and I am sure you will agree she is adorable.

I always knew that I had the best friends anyone could ever want, however after being diagnosed with Breast Cancer, they suddenly became not just good friends, but, marvelous, super, supportive friends. No matter where I am, what tests I am going through or even when I am relaxing at home...I am so aware of the prayers, support and the tremendous wave of love I feel from these amazing women that I am so proud to call my friends.

I just wanted to post a pic of some of the cards and gifts that I have received not just from friends, but from people I know on a professional level through work or Girls Brigade. It is so encouraging to know that so many people wish only the best for you.

I have loads of paper bags, supposedly for paperbag books, however I have never made one. So I decided to try gift bags, this is my first one, it is also my first attemp at colouring a stamped image....so I am quite pleased with it. I enjoyed making them...or perhaps I just enjoyed doing something crafty again....either way, I am going to make some more, will upload pics when they are done.

What was happening 10 years ago: Ten years ago, I had two children under 5 at home and was preparing for my DD to begin primary school. I had just agreed to join Girls Brigade...now how a simple decision can make such a huge change in your life:lol:
5 things to do today: Go to the gym, pay some cheques into the bank, food shopping, tons of housework and I want to make a special get well card for my big sis, who has been unwell for a while and the doc has only now realised she has had pnuemonia!!!!
Snacks I like: Jelly bean company Jelly beans, Chocolate, obviously LOL - especially Mint Aeros, Minstrels and Revels hmmmm and nachos and and and and I could go on for ever:lol
What would I do if I was a millionaire: Oh if I was a millionaire, I would buy a bigger house, somewhere where I could see the sea, but not in a coastal resort and it would have a designated craft room with big sunshine windows overlooking the beach and the sea. I would ensure my families mortgages were paid off and hopefully not let it change me
Places I have lived: I was born in Glasgow and then moved to Whitburn, however I worked in Devon for a while so had accomodation there..but I will always belong to Glasgow...just like the song says:lol:
